The Florida Heart Research Institute has been an international leader in cardiovascular research and education since 1944. Established originally as one of the world’s first cardiovascular research hospitals called the Miami Heart Institute, the hospital was sold in 1993 and the research and education divisions remained intact. Today, Florida Heart Research Institute is an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to stop heart disease through research, education and prevention.
Florida Heart Research Institute’s novel approach to collaborative research on the national level serves as a critical impetus to the introduction and development of innovative research efforts. This unique approach has proven highly effective in directing critical resources to open new and vital areas of scientific exploration.
Florida Heart Research Institute’s outreach expanded statewide through the 2003 legislative enactment of the Stop Heart Disease license plate. The nation’s first specialty plate for this cause raises funds for heart disease research, education and prevention programs for Florida residents.
